What is Youth Empowerment SA and what does it offer?

Youth Empowerment South Africa (YEMSA) is a digital learning and development platform open to all South Africans aged 18 and over who are looking to build their skills, boost their confidence, and grow their future. It offers:

Free and paid online courses in education, life skills, digital tools, and job readiness

Career guidance and entrepreneurship support

Wellness check-ins and a personal progress tracker

A membership option for unlimited access to all courses

Learn at your own pace, on most devices, anytime, anywhere.

How much does it cost?

Free: The National School Safety Framework (NSSF) course is 100% free and compulsory (DBE requirement).

Pay-as-you-go: Most other courses cost between R25–R40 each.

• R120 Membership: Unlock all courses, certificates, and features for 12 months.

Who is this platform for?

Youth Empowerment SA is for anyone aged 18 and older in South Africa who wants to build a better future.

Whether you’re:

Unemployed and looking to gain new skills

• A recent matriculant or school leaver needing career direction

• An aspiring entrepreneur who wants to start a small business

• Looking for guidance on finding a job, creating a CV, or preparing for interviews

• A former or current education assistant or general assistant in the PYEI - BEEI programme

Who is this platform for?

  2. Provide your email, phone number, and create a password.

  3. If you already have an account, click “Login” and enter your details.

    You can also use your mobile number to log in.

COURSE QUESTIONS

Are the courses self-paced?

Yes — you can complete lessons in your own time, pause, return later, and go at your own pace.

How are the courses structured?

Each course includes:

Short videos

• Step-by-step lessons

• Quizzes

• Downloadable tools (e.g., CV templates)

• Certificates on completion

How long are the courses?

Most courses take 30–60 minutes to complete. Some may be shorter or longer depending on the topic.

Do I have to follow a specific order?

No. You can do courses in any order, depending on your needs. However, some career pathways may recommend a sequence.

CERTIFICATE QUESTIONS

How do certificates work?

You earn a certificate when you complete a course with a passing grade (usually 70% or higher).

• Certificates are automatically added to your profile.

• You can download them as PDF files to share with employers or on social media.

Will my certificate be emailed to me?

No. Certificates are not emailed.

To access them:

Log in

• Go to Profile > Certificates

• Click “Download Certificate”

How do I obtain my certificate?

You can get your certificate in two ways:

  1. After finishing a course and passing the quiz, click the “Download Certificate” button that appears.

  2. OR go to your dropdown menu > “Certificates” and download any past certificates.

My certificate has incorrect information. What do I do?

Certificates are auto-generated based on your registration name.

If your name is wrong:

  1. Go to “My Profile”

  2. Update your first and last name

  3. Re-download your certificate: it should now reflect the change

My certificate won’t download or doesn’t show.

Certificates open in a new browser tab. If you’re having trouble:

Make sure your browser’s popup blocker is disabled

• Try a different browser (like Chrome or Firefox)

• Ensure your phone or laptop has enough storage
